The Savacontrols units from Savawatt are designed to lower the amount of electricity required by compressors in air-conditioning and refrigeration plants. DeVere contacted Savawatt to learn more about the cost-cutting potential of a SavaControl installation on the company’s refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.

The SavaWatt Controls were installed and logged on two units: a standard kitchen walk-in freezer Hermetique compressor and a three-phase Toshiba heat pump.

The single phase walk-in freezers are a typical example with a Hermetique compressor, which should run consistently in a busy kitchen. A 22.9% savings is consistent with SavaWatt’s survey calculation of a 20% savings.

The Toshiba clearly shows that SavaControls has a worthwhile effect on lowering consumption. To account for varying run times, heating and cooling modes, Savawatt’s calculation for three phase equipment of this size assumes a 15% reduction in consumption per year on average, despite a spot reading on installation of 17.5%.
